Chiangmai Province
The Drop-In Centre
The VGCD drop-in centre is situated on Chang Moi
Kao Road which is centrally located near the tourist area where the
children work. Here children are offered temporary shelter during
the day, counselling services, basic literacy education, life skills
for sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and drug and substance
use. Along with condom distribution and instruction in their use,
basic health care and hygiene are also encouraged. A new creative
arts programme has also recently started with the help of local artists
as facilitators. There are approximately 200 children that use the
services at the drop-in centre.
Outreach
Street Educators through field activities engage
young children early to reduce the possibility of entry into sex
work and drug abuse. Children selling flowers at sex-related and
entertainment venues are especially targeted by street educators
since they are most vulnerable to sexual exploitation. Street educators
also trace children's parents in order to raise awareness amongst
the parents about the health risks and dangers involved in entry
into sex work.

Home
In 2000, a home was established in Sankampang for
street children who became orphaned or for street children whose
parents are in jail. Here children are provided with formal and non-formal
education, basic healthcare and hygiene, a foster parent program,
vocational training and life skills education on a variety of subjects
like, sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, drug and substance
use. Children also participate in various camp activities that incorporates
life skills education in a fun and leisurely manner.

Chiangrai Province
Drop-In Centre and Home
VGCD also has a drop-in centre in the boarder town of Mae Sai in
the Chiangrai province. A home for forty children also operates in
another boarder area near Chiangs ean . Many of the children that
use the VGCD services in this area come from the hill tribe villages
of Thailand's neighbouring country, Myanmar. These children are driven
to Thailand by the hostile conditions that prevail in Myanmar as
a result of the country's ongoing internal conflict. In Thailand,
these children continue to face prejudice and disdain from the local
people. From this geographical location the children migrate or are
trafficked to the popular tourist destinations of Chiangmai, Pattaya
and the Thai-Malay boarder, to beg on the streets, sell flowers or
work in the sex industry. Along with providing health services, referral
services, housing, shelter, information, counselling, art therapy,
life-skills and vocational training, VGCD strives to deter children
from working in the sex industry and migrating to other high risk
areas.
